Clifton Hampden Modern archery

At Clifton Hampden recreation ground, the village runs Recurve archery sessions through the summer, under the instruction of area  GNAS coach Ken Chrisp. The last session this season will be Thursday 6th Sept and this note will be updated with the start date in 2019.

Ken also runs indoor archery sessions at the Abbey sports centre at Berinsfield through the winter on Friday nights and Saturday mornings. His phone number is 01865 340567.

Modern recurve archery can also be found at Castle Archers in Wallingford , outside in summer and inside in winter.

Cricket club

Clifton Hampden Cricket Club has a Saturday team who play in the OCA in division 3, and a Wednesday evening 20 over team who play in the local friendly league.

Fight the gravel

Some crushing news: a gravel extraction and concrete processing plant has been proposed for this area. We’re against this and need your support.

Longbow society

The Clifton Hampden Longbow Society runs all through the year on Sunday mornings and in summer on Wednesday evenings. This is very different to recurve archery and they shoot over a wide area rather like golf to quite long distances to land arrows as close as they can to flags. It is known as artillery shooting to the marks, as practiced in medieval times.

This has become extremely popular and though there are no current membership restrictions, it may be that a limit is set in the future.

Post Office & Stores

Clifton Hampden Post Office and Stores is a small independent village shop offering a wide variety of goods: bread, pasties and croissant baked fresh daily, scrummy cakes and biscuits and a good selection of cards and gifts.

St Michael and All Angels church

St. Michael's is part of the Bridge Group (Clifton Hampden, Culham, Long with Little Wittenham), which worships together Sunday by Sunday. We try to offer a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for prayer in our beautiful church with its riverside setting. Children are encouraged to worship with their families though we do have special service booklets for children to help them engage with the service.

Village Primary School

At Clifton Hampden C of E Primary School we believe that children’s first experiences of school are vital laying down the foundations for all aspects of life that follows. We want all children at our school to have a love of learning, so that they can continue to learn effectively through into adulthood and enjoy happy, fulfilling and productive lives.

Our aim is to provide the highest possible quality education for all our children, enabling them to realise their individual abilities, talents, skills and personal qualities. We pride ourselves on our warm, caring ethos, within which all children feel happy, safe, engaged and enabled to learn.

The 1st Clifton Hampden and Burcot Scout Group has groups all the way up from Beavers, through Cubs to Sea Scouts

Tennis Club

The Clifton Hampden and Burcot Tennis club is open to all members of both communities as well as offering concessionary membership for local groups and associations. It is founded on the principles of inclusivity, fair play and fun for all.

The club was formed at the request of Sir Geoffrey and Lady Gibbs in 1950 or so. It was for the local people of the two villages to use the court in the grounds of Clifton Hampden Manor. Over the years many tournaments were held with Dorchester, Benson and Abingdon.

The club now has its own court on the recreation ground in Clifton Hampden and enjoys the support of players and non-players alike from both villages.
