Clifton Hampden Cricket clubFrom May to early September if you take a walk to the recreation ground on a Saturday afternoon you will most likely see 22 people dressed in white clothing … this is English Village Cricket and like the giant panda you could argue is an endangered species especially if you are a small village team. We are fortunate to have one of the most picturesque grounds in the County as many visitors comment. This is maintained by a small team of volunteers throughout the year. But like many grassroots clubs we face a continuous battle for membership and finances. In the main we run two teams. A midweek side who play the shortened T20 version of the game in the evening. On Saturday we compete in the Cherwell League playing a longer 45over aside format. We regularly compete against much larger clubs in the area such as Didcot & Oxford. We can provide competitive cricket in a friendly and welcoming environment. The club bar is open to all when we are playing at home. At this moment in time we don’t have anyone from the village playing regularly. It would be nice to change that. Find us on play-cricket.com | |
Longbow societyThe Clifton Hampden Longbow Society runs all through the year on Sunday mornings and in summer on Wednesday evenings. This is very different to recurve archery and they shoot over a wide area rather like golf to quite long distances to land arrows as close as they can to flags. It is known as artillery shooting to the marks, as practiced in medieval times. This has become extremely popular and though there are no current membership restrictions, it may be that a limit is set in the future. | cliftonhampdenlongbowsociety.co.uk |
St Michael and All Angels churchSt. Michael's is part of the Bridge Group (Clifton Hampden, Culham, Long with Little Wittenham), which worships together Sunday by Sunday. We try to offer a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for prayer in our beautiful church with its riverside setting. Children are encouraged to worship with their families though we do have special service booklets for children to help them engage with the service. | achurchnearyou.com/clifton-hampden-st-michael-all-angels |

Tennis ClubThe Clifton Hampden and Burcot Tennis club is open to all members of both communities as well as offering concessionary membership for local groups and associations. It is founded on the principles of inclusivity, fair play and fun for all.The club was formed at the request of Sir Geoffrey and Lady Gibbs in 1950 or so. It was for the local people of the two villages to use the court in the grounds of Clifton Hampden Manor. Over the years many tournaments were held with Dorchester, Benson and Abingdon. The club now has its own court on the recreation ground in Clifton Hampden and enjoys the support of players and non-players alike from both villages. | chbtc.co.uk |
